Seen While Running: Eaten By Trees
The beauty of running are the things you pass by as you run along. You get to see things that you don’t notice as you drive by in a car. You may have run the same route 50 times but you find yourself seeing something different each time. I ran by a tree than had grown over a fence and it got me to thinking, there are probably some cool picture of things “swallowed” by trees. Here are some of the cooler ones I’ve found
Most policeman keep track of how long you’ve been parked in a spot by marking the tires with white chalk. This may be the only instance ever where they can measure the time by counting rings in a tree.

This must be what people are looking for when they are looking for a money tree. Instead of the normal throwing a penny into a fountain and making a wish, people hammer a penny into this log. I absolutely guarantee my wish starts off with a smashed finger on this one. I always have better luck with fountains anyway.
This proves that anything against a tree for a long period of time will be eaten by it. This wash basin was merely leaning against the tree and with time, the tree has grabbed it and lifted it up.
Another one of those, how frickin long has that motorcycle been there? This is definitely the best bike lock I’ve ever seen.

You know those neighbors that never take down their Christmas lights? This is what they’re trying to get to. Lights grown right into the tree. Just plug them in and the tree is ready to go. I see a future in this one. A “plug in” live tree
This is what they call a “live frame” It only takes about 10 years to make each one. The funny thing about this picture is that despite the fact that the tree has swallowed the sign, we still all know exactly what the sign says. Evidently the photographer didn’t.

This is way to funny! The “plug in” live tree! :)))
I would like one as the next Christmas tree.

TV Spy, as it says in the description people hammer coins into it. So happy to re-state this for you.

Those are great. I used to hike quite a bit and remember seeing in the middle of a forest an old, forgotten bit of barbed wire fence that was running right through the middle of a tree. It’s too bad I didn’t have a camera with me at the time.
Although, I think the money one is a bit of a cheat - the tree didn’t really grow around it.

Amazing how nature will reclaim things that are just lying in it’s path. The motorcycle one is amazing.

Nice Pics, but the caption with the wash basin isn’t correct. A tree wouldn’t be able to lift up the wash basin. Tree’s increase in length from the shoot tips, not the base. Sorry, I’m a plant nerd

The comment regarding lifting of the wash basin - you are correct. I figured that it was probably sitting on a woodpile originally and it was eventually eaten away/decayed.

I think the tree can lift it up. I have to find it and send it to you, but I have a picture of a tree that grew around and old car axel and it’s over 6 feet from the ground!!!!!

I don’t know if this picture is going to open for you, but you can try it. IT’s an old car axel….between 5 and 6 feet above the ground.
I wanted to collect a series like you have done and title it “Man Verses Nature.”
There needs to be a url at the front to work. That looks like it is the path on your computer

Lovely photos. There some neat “bicycle eaten by tree” ones that I’ve seen on the web from time to time.
Search for “bicycle tree” in images.google.com
fun.

I once saw a pull-up bar that was bolted between two trees. over the years it got higher and higher off the ground until nobody could reach it unless they climbed the tree.

Seeing stuff like this makes me cringe. I’m not a huge environmentalist at any stretch of the imagination, but these tree abominations such as the sign, christmas tree lights, or the motorcycle actually looks like a nature has been corrupted and twisted into something wholly unnatural.
Great collection of pictures though.

the penny tree second picture down im sure is in a place called Ingelton (if that is the correct spelling) in the north east of England. I have been there many times it has huge waterfalls an is a very popular 5mile walk for trekkers
